DISCIPLING NATIONS

Jesus said: “Lift up your eyes and look at the fields …” John 4:35

There are over 900 million people in nearly 250 ethno linguistic groups in Africa.

Approximately 150 million Africans are overseas in what is called the African Diaspora. Africa’s population and growth rate is the highest in the world. Rapid population growth, overgrazing and deforestation have caused tremendous damage to local eco-systems and the escalation of desertification.

Hundred of billions of dollars of foreign aid have disappeared into Africa with little discernable improvement. Over 25% of Africa’s combined national income are lost each year through corruption. This is calculated to exceed US$150 billion a year.

Of the 33 nations with the lowest ranking on the UN Human Development Index, 32 of them are in Africa. Socialist economic policies, chronic kleptocracy, tribal favouritism and endemic corruption have undermined the tremendous potential of this mineral and agricultural rich continent.

Since the end of the Cold War many conflicts have ended, particularly in Southern Africa. However, tribalism and ethnic cleansing have caused tremendous bloodshed and great tides of refugees in Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Islamic Jihad in Sudan and Northern Nigeria have destroyed many churches and massacred countless Christians. Christians are suffering persecution in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libia, Egypt, Mauritania, Somalia and Eritrean.

Officially 41% of Africa are Muslim. Half of these are Arabs and the other half, Black Africans who have Arabised . Officially over 14% of Africa are Evangelicals and 10% Charismatics. Many churches in Africa are growing in spiritual maturity and evangelistic vision, but Discipleship is still Africa’s greatest need. Evangelistic growth has been explosive, but most often thorough discipleship and a Biblical worldview are lacking. Leadership Training and Bible based literature are high priorities. Thorough repentance and restitution, and applying the Lordship of Christ to all areas of life needs to be emphasised.

Africa is involved in a world war of worldviews. It is in a battle for the soul of a continent. Radical Islam, Marxism, secular humanism and animism are waging a ceaseless campaign against Christianity in Africa.

Yet, in many cases the Church has been growing faster than buildings can be built or leaders can be trained. Most pastors in Africa have no theological training. Over 100 million church goers do not yet have their own copy of a Bible. Our priority is to win Africa for Christ, making disciples and teaching obedience to all things that the Lord has commanded.

If you are serious about missions and share our vision of winning Africa for Christ contact Frontline Fellowship and plan to participate in our next Great Commission Course.

Give up your small ambitions and follow Jesus!
