AFRICAN AMERICANS CHALLENGED TO MOBILISE THEIR CHURCHES FOR WORLD MISSIONS PDF Print E-mail

Although African Americans make up over 12% of the United States population, and a higher percentage of Evangelical church-goers in the USA, less than 1% of all full time missionaries from United States of America come from African American churches.

The Great Omission

Richard Coleman, an African American Evangelical mission leader, cited, from amongst other reasons, an overemphasis on personal prosperity and a fear of the unknown, or a distaste for leaving their comfort zone, as reasons for the disappointingly low involvement of African American church members in world missions.

Without a World Missions Vision …

Although African Americans have some of the highest educational and living standards in the world, their participation in world missions has been disproportionately low.

The Fields are Ready for Harvesting

The mission society directed by Richard Coleman has more than 200 missionaries in 38 countries and believes that African American churches should be willing to learn from, and partner with, other churches which have successful overseas mission’s programmes.
