WHAT IS CORRECT FLAG ETIQUETTE?

WHEN THE NATIONAL FLAG IS LOWERED TO HALF MAST, IS THE CHRISTIAN FLAG ALSO TO BE AT HALF MAST?

Thank you very much for your email.

No, it is completely unacceptable for the Christian flag to ever be at half mast.

The only time the Christian flag could have been at half mast would have been for the three days that the Lord was in the tomb. However, since He has risen, and because Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life, the Christian flag can never again be at half mast.

As Augustine so eloquently put it in City of God: There are cities that man builds and men destroy those cities. But there is a city built by God which cannot be destroyed.

We are dual citizens. Our national flag reflects our citizenship on earth.

The Christian flag represents our citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Our physical bodies may die, but born again Believers can never truly die becauseto be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

He came that we may have life and life in all its abundance. Spiritual life now, eternal life then, abundant life always.

I personally would keep the Christian flag flying on a separate flag pole at the top of the mast while the national flag is at half mast. Or if you only have one flag pole, have the Christian flag at the top of the flag pole and the national flag at half mast. That would be correct flag etiquette in the light of Biblical doctrine.

Please see my article Flying the Christian Flag.

May the Lord continue to be your joy and strength.

Yours for the fulfilment of the Great Commission
