YOU ARE A CRAZY RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC BIGOT DRIVEN BY FEAR! PDF Print E-mail

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your letter. We do appreciate critical feedback, but you apparently misunderstand our position.

I have never written in support of apartheid. My opposition to apartheid was consistent, vocal and included in books such as: South Africa – Renaissance or Reformation?

My family came from the English liberal tradition and opposed the National Party government and apartheid on principle. I chose to study in a multi-racial theological college in the early 1980s when that was considered unacceptable. I received visits from the Military Intelligence, Security Police and National Intelligence Service for my missionary activities in communist Mozambique and writings, which they questioned as subversive. I was criticised and attacked by my own Baptist church for going into black and coloured townships, without a permit, in violation of the apartheid laws in the 1970s and 1980s.

As a missionary, who for over 26 years has dedicated my life to serving, mostly black, people suffering in countries as far afield as Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, the Congo, Rwanda and Sudan, I have spent more months and years in mud huts and under thatched rooves in remote African rural villages than you probably have?

Opposing communism, terrorism and political manipulation of churches is not the same thing as supporting apartheid. Please do some more research into our background and track record. Otherwise you may be bearing false witness against a neighbour.

As far as the Nazis go, my father fought against the Nazis in Montgomery’s Eighth Army. One of my uncles was involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler and died in a concentration camp.

You say that I am driven by fear. You plainly do not know me. I have thoroughly enjoyed skydiving, motor biking, mountain climbing and scuba diving. I have gone over a hundred times behind enemy lines, including repeatedly to the Nuba Mountains – an island of Christianity in a sea of Islam - probably one of the most dangerous places on earth.

Nor are we anti-gays, lesbians and transsexuals. I have repeatedly reached out to such people with the Gospel and count amongst our friends individuals who have been converted to Christ from such backgrounds.

But my background and opinions are not important. What really matters is God, His Law, His will and His Word.

We need to know God and to make Him known.

The fact is that you and I have an appointment. “It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the Judgment.” Hebrews 9:27

All that really matters is one that day when you stand before the Creator and Eternal Judge: will He find you innocent, or guilty, of breaking His Law?

If you were to die today, do you know for sure whether you would go to Heaven or hell? If God was to ask you “Why should I let you into My Heaven”, what would you say?

If we can be of any assistance, please do let us know.

Yours for Faith and Freedom
