Dear Peter,

Moving a mission team across Africa to reach unreached villages with the Gospel involves careful planning and skillful coordination. Years of experience increases faith and helps to anticipate unforeseen problems, both natural and human, ranging from flooded rivers to opposition by communist or Muslim authorities.

We have two field teams at the moment, working in Zambia and Zimbabwe, sharing the good news that "Christ died for our sins and is risen from the grave!" By God's grace and perfect timing, Dr. Peter Hammond's new book, Discipleship Training Manual was back from the printer in time to take for pastors and schools along the way.

The Zambia team arrived in Lusaka, pre-position material for Peter's meetings and University seminars during May, then headed west for their village ministry in the Lukulu area. They'll stay east of the Zambezi River which is in flood stage now.

Due to security circumstances we cannot fully report on all that's happening in Zimbabwe, but one of our missionaries writes, "A prayer meeting was arranged for April 9th and was advertised in the newspaper in Harare [the capital]. The aim was to pray for peace and stability in Zimbabwe. The police considered it 'political.'" The venue, a public school, was changed, "because of threats from the police," to a local church and "about 600 people attended the meeting." While they were praying, the police disrupted the meeting, using teargas to create pandemonium. Many people were hurt as they fled the building in panic, some climbing through the church windows; "14 people were arrested, beaten with batons, slapped in their faces and taken to the police station where they were held in cells until Monday evening [4/11]." Please pray for these persecuted Christians.

Family news: Apart from a long overdue break from high intensity mission work in South Africa, there was a 3-fold reason for a visit from our daughter Lenora Hammond last month. It was her Mom's 80th Birthday, the 50th Anniversary of Arizona Christian University (her daughter Andrea's school), President George W. Bush was the speaker. Lenora is a cancer survivor; part of her post-op therapy includes paddling with a Dragon Boat team of fellow breast cancer survivors in Cape Town. Before leaving she went online to see if there was a DB team in Arizona. "Yes!" And they were having a regatta on Tempe Lake while she was here and invited her to participate. Thank you Lord!

Yours in His grip and serving a risen Savior,
