Prayer
& Praise Update
CONFERENCES,
OUTREACHES, PRISONERS AND PARLIAMENT
Dear
Friends
GREAT
COMMISSION COURSE
Our
last month has been crammed full of interesting events and
outreaches. Participants from as far afield as Arizona and
Zambia, California and the Congo, Canada and New Zealand
took part in our Great Commission Course. The GCC involved
prison ministry, film evangelism, mass literature distribution,
door to door, one on one, personal evangelism, hard physical
work, setting up a large tent in a township with inadequate
tools, intense times of prayer, some inspiring visits to
Christian heritage sites and mission stations in Cape Town,
soccer evangelism on a muddy field and midnight hikes, in
the forest, in the river or over the mountain with backpacks
filled with Scriptures in Arabic.
CONFERENCE
IN KWAZULU
Immediately
following the conclusion of the GCC, I flew off to KwaZulu/Natal
to be the keynote speaker at a pastors conference and church
family camp. The theme was Revival and numerous young people
made commitments to Christ, others stood to commit themselves
to full surrender to the Lordship of Christ in all areas
of life and others came forward to make themselves available
for missions.
SPEAKING
UP FOR THE PRISONERS IN ZIMBABWE
Timothy
represented Frontline Fellowship at the University of Pretoria
Missions Week, then travelled down to KwaSizabantu Mission
to give a report back on our mission to Sudan and collect
our latest book, the Discipleship Handbook, from their printers.
The day after Timothy unloaded the nearly one ton of Discipleship
Handbooks, I was able to introduce the book at a Women of
Destiny Rally in Cape Town. Then I was flown up to Johannesburg
to take part in a one-hour debate on National TV prime time,
The Big Question, on the human rights abuses and the ongoing
lawlessness in Zimbabwe. The audience and thousands of phone-in
viewers voted overwhelmingly for our position that South
Africa should do far more to help the prisoners suffering
in Zimbabwe.
STANDING
FOR THE RIGHT TO LIFE AT PARLIAMENT
Straight
after that I was called upon to give a submission to the
Health Portfolio Committee at Parliament. My submission,
both written and verbal, was accompanied with a PowerPoint
slide presentation arguing for the right to life of pre-born
babies to be respected and protected by law. We urged that
the abortion legislation in South Africa be scrapped.
NATIONAL
WOMEN'S DAY OUTREACHES IN THE MALL
On
National Women's Day, we organised outreaches and displays
at five shopping centres to campaign for more respect and
protection for women by combating the exploitative industry
of pornography. This was the tenth year in a row that we
have organised the National Women's Day outreaches. Book
tables with photo displays were set up in the shopping malls,
balloons with pro-family slogans and Scripture verses were
distributed to children, chocolates and literature to the
women, and many interesting conversations and witnessing
opportunities resulted. This year we also had eight American
missionary volunteers join us for these shopping mall outreaches.
NEW
DISCIPLESHIP HANDBOOK LAUNCHED
Launching
our new Discipleship
Handbook has also provided more opportunities for ministry
and to call people back to what is of the greatest importance
- our relationship with the Lord. At home meetings, church
services, rallies and mission conferences, we have been
receiving a tremendous response to this new Discipleship
Handbook. This is my third discipleship book in the series
which began with Faith In Action in 1989 and Putting Feet
To Your Faith in 1998. We also continue to receive a tremendous
response to the Biblical Principles For Africa book, including
personal letters from the Presidents of Zambia and Malawi.
Please pray with us that the Lord will also use this Discipleship
Handbook to equip pastors, chaplains, teachers and evangelists
throughout Africa to make disciples, teaching obedience
- to enable us to love God more wholeheartedly, to serve
Him more effectively, to obey Him more consistently and
to worship Him more acceptably. The Discipleship Handbook
is packed full of some of the most practical, important
and helpful lessons that I have learnt in the 27 years that
I have been a Christian, and the 25 years I've been involved
in missions. I pray that the Lord will make it as much of
a blessing to those who read it as it has been for me to
research and write it.
ANDREA
and the AUSTRIAN ALPS
The
Discipleship Handbook is the first book that I've dedicated
to a family member, to my eldest daughter, Andrea. Andrea
recently had the opportunity to travel through to Austria
for a family wedding, to visit relatives there and to learn
some German while working on her cousin's farm.
CHRISTOPHER
CELEBRATES 9 YEARS
On
Wednesday we had the great joy of celebrating Christopher's
9th birthday. I know that many of you have been praying
for Christopher since he was born with kidney failure. The
doctors at the time gave him no chance of survival. Christopher
is a daily testimony of God's miraculous answers to our
heartfelt prayers. Please do continue to pray for all of
us as we have so many writing projects, outreaches and field
trips coming up.
"I
thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every
prayer of mine making requests for you all with joy, for
your fellowship in the Gospel from the first day until now,
being confident of this very thing, that He who began a
good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus
Christ." Philippians 1:3-6
Yours
for the fulfillment of the Great Commission
