Pray for Charl|

Charl van Wyk (February 2006)

Dear Friend

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

We started off the New Year with a bang. The Summit Leadership Training for
youth was held from the 5 to 13 January in a beautiful area near Cape Town.
This year my family joined in for most of the camp, which made it
particularly memorable. The last day at the Summit was Jason’s birthday and
we had a great party at our home for all his friends to celebrate his 5th
birthday with him. After the Summit, I had a week to prepare for the
whirlwind tour of South Africa with Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of
Gun Owners of America. Larry, a wonderful Christian brother, came to South
Africa on invitation of Gun Owners of South Africa (GOSA) as a guest speaker
for our public launch and also to see the effects of our new firearms
control legislation.

Larry had his first meeting preaching in Khayelitsha only hours after
landing in Cape Town and his last public appearance ending 3 hours before
his flight out of South Africa. In between Larry and I visited 3 other
cities in 5 days.

GOSA was blessed with over 40 media opportunities, with reports as far a
field as Los Angeles, Jamaica and all over South Africa; this was an
extremely exciting and eventful week with the media very positive about the
work of GOSA.

Larry Pratt and Abios Khoele of the ‘Black Gun Owners Association of South
Africa’ were our guest speakers at the launch and when Larry left South
Africa, Abios stayed on with us and spent time with my family and I and also
joined us at church on Sunday morning. Please remember him in your prayers;
we pray that Jesus Christ will become a reality to him and his family.

Sanctity Life Sunday was remembered on the 29th January, the day in which we
celebrate life in our churches and also remember those who are suffering due
to crisis pregnancies.

1st February was our National Day of Repentance commemorating the start of
the abortion holocaust that is taking place in South Africa. I chaired the
Christian Action prayer vigil outside the main gates of Parliament in Cape
Town, which was preceded by a funeral procession with small coffins, and
banners, which moved from close to the City Hall in Cape Town, through the
city streets, and joined us at the main gates of Parliament for the prayer
vigil.

I was aiming to take a group of interested business people and professionals
into the Democratic Republic of the Congo but with their first elections in
45 years taking place at the end of May this year, and many tens of
thousands of people still being displaced in the province in which we work,
I decided that we would rather do this after the elections.

Please pray for Rev. Bill Bathman, Dr Peter Hammond and I, as we prepare to
fly into the Congo to train Christian leaders before the elections take
place, to help them be Salt and Light in the socio-political arena and
encourage them to apply the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all areas of life.

I would appreciate your prayers, as I meet with Letlapa Mphahlele the
commander of the attackers who terrorised our church in 1993, murdering 11
people and injuring 54. We will meet to discuss running a Christian camp
for the ex-terrorists and he also requested that we do a speaking tour of
South Africa to sell our books.

February is the hottest month of the year in South Africa and Sonja is
feeling quite exhausted at times, being almost 8 months pregnant. We are
looking forward to the birth of our little baby, due at the end of March and
the most exciting part right now is deciding on a name for baby.

Roberta (9) is very excited about the birth and is planning to not see many
friends due to the awesome responsibility of looking after the little one.
John-Marc (3) is concerned about his mother putting on any more weight and
Jason (5) is thoroughly enjoying school and wonders what baby the fuss is
all about.

I’ll, Lord willing, be taping a national television show during March
relating to the firearms issue, please pray for this occasion, for
opportunities that the Gospel may be presented.

"The Lord reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be moved!" Psalm 99:1

Yours in the service of our King

Charl van Wyk
