Snap out of it, South Africans
November 1986
“Day and night I cry, and tears are my only food; all the time my enemies ask me, ‘Where is your God?’ . . . Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise Him, my Saviour and my God.” Psalm 42:3,5
Such a negative and defeatist depression has overwhelmed so many in our country. And no wonder! We have for so long endured such a wave of fanatical hysteria and such a barrage of left-wing, hate-filled, biased, immoral, unChristian and radical propaganda that many South Africans, even Christians, have all but given up and lapsed into an pathetic stupor — watching escapist videos.
ALL THAT GOOD MEN HAVE TO DO FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS. . . NOTHING. THE HOTTEST PLACE IN HELL IS RESERVED FOR THOSE WHO, IN A CRISIS, DID...NOTHING.
My friends — if we do not need to snap out this punch-drunk state of passive acceptance of the downslide in morals, corruption of the Gospel and onward march of communist anarchy and revolutionary hatred — then we need to help others around us out if it.
Let us get things a bit in perspective — ignoring the artificially cranked up propaganda war waged by our negative anti-South African press. The world has been in worse situations before. And survived. Think of the fall of the Roman Empire. Or how hopeless it looked when the Muslim hordes were poised to conquer the world after having annihilated fifty percent of all the Christians in the world at that time. Pessimists were predicting the fall of Europe as the Moors reached the Gates of Tours in France and the Turks attacked Vienna in Austria. Yet the world survived that crisis-time and just as Ghengis Khan, Napoleon and Hitler have been defeated before, so too will the modern communist empire be vanquished.
South Africa has been in worse situations before too. Like after Piet Retief and his seventy defenceless and trusting followers were murdered after the “successful negotiations” with Dingane. Read of the dark days of despair after the massacres of Bloukrans and Bushmans River. Think how much worse it was in 1902 after the Anglo Boer War, with half the country devastated and crippled under Kitchener’s and Milner’s scorched earth and concentration camp policy.
We have been brainwashed that morals only slide downwards, that the forces of revolution, anarchy and destruction are irreversible, that things will always get worse.
What rubbish! What defeatist propaganda! What a lot of pacifist lies!
Study how immoral and debauched England was before the Weslyan Revival. The Puritan and Victorian eras prove that the moral state of a nation can improve.
Spain, Greece, South Korea. Malaya, Indonesia. Chile, Grenada. South West Africa and a dozen other examples can be cited to prove that communist onslaughts and revolutionary warfare can be defeated and turned back.
The Renaissance and the Reformation, the Great Awakening, and the Revivals of the past all conclusively prove to us what can happen if people will realise that if something is wrong — it can be changed. If something is evil — it must be fought. If we are on God’s side — we will win.
Each one of us must do our part. We must study the Scriptures diligently. We must pray fervently. We must seek out and use every opportunity to witness for Christ, to speak out against unBiblical heresies, to stand up for the truth of God’s Word, to fight evil, to defend our country against ungodly forces, and to be a light for Christ in our world. Salt for our society. a positive influence on the process of History.
May each of us be brave and bold for God
