Where Landmines are the National Plant

Rob, a missionary with Frontline Fellowship, working as an evangelist amongst soldiers in the war zones of Southern Africa, reports that:

Over the last year he has travelled thousands of km’s over “operational” bush tracks (endangered by landmines), travelled over 17 000 km by air, sometimes at tree-top level in Angolan airspace, in areas where SAM missiles and RPG rockets make life difficult, and preached the Word of God in bases which have come under mortar, machine gun and rocket fire.

Rob reports having held over 180 evangelistic services and meetings, mostly amongst soldiers, during 1986. He also made several visits to Angola, distributing Bibles, tracts, Gospel records and evangelistic materials to churches there.

Some of the roads he has travelled took 3 hours to cover 20 km and some of the military bases ministered to had hundreds of soldiers, whilst others had only 12 troops. No base has been too large or too small for him to visit for the sake of the Gospel.

Rob described one reaction which made him feel that the discomfort, danger and distances covered were worth it: “You are responsible for me coming to know God!”
