Reports from the Front

Volume 1 1988

Several Frontline teams have returned from field outreaches in Mozambique.

Here are some reports:

The whole trip was special. At one church service the converts took off their witchcraft charms and fetishes which were burnt — and the ashes were buried. More than forty publicly surrendered their lives to Christ in this way.

“We managed to deliver hundreds of kilogrammes of Gospels, medical supplies, clothes and food amongst desperate victims of the civil war there. The Christians were thrilled to receive visitors. More food, literature, clothing and medicines are required. Despite the difficulties, the time was most rewarding. Mozambique has moved me more than any other place and I long to return. Despite hardships, I felt happier and more used of God there than anywhere else,”

I entered Mozambique by motorbike, in the rain, and had several opportunities to distribute over a hundred New Testaments and Bibles to enthusiastic and grateful Renamo guerillas. I saw how these disciplined and courteous resistance fighters immediately started reading the Scriptures I had given them. Many read every available moment of each day — sometimes with tears of joy or repentance flowing down their cheeks.

“The people are free to build churches and worship God and evangelise their neighbours and plant crops in the areas under the control of the Resistance Movement. There is starvation in the communist-held areas and from the Zimbabwe army’s scorched-earth activities, but not in the Renamo areas I travelled in. The priority there is Bibles and Bible teaching.”
