National
Day of Repentance
1
February 2002
On
1st February United Christian Action hosted a National Day
of Repentance prayer meeting at Parliament in Cape Town.
This was to repent from the national sin of abortion. Since
the ANC legalized abortion on demand on 1st February 1997,
over 200 000 babies have been killed by abortion in South
Africa legally.
Led
by UCA Director, Dr. Peter Hammond (who had just returned
from Sudan the day before) and UCA Communications Director,
Robert McCafferty, the prayer meeting was also addressed
by ACDP Member of Parliament, Cheryllyn Dudley.
On
the same day Africa Christian Action organized a funeral
procession from City Hall to Parliament. Led by a hearse,
and mourners dressed in black carrying 3 small coffins,
wreaths of flowers, small white crosses and banners declaring
Abortion stops a beating heart, The
Lord hates hands that shed innocent blood, Abortion
kills babies and Choose life so that
you and your children may live the procession was
followed by a huge 9 metre trailer with colour pictures
of fully developed babies in the womb and medical facts
such as that a babys heart beat can be detected at
3 weeks and the brain wave at 6 weeks after conception.
Abortion kills Babies, Speak up for those
who cannot speak up for themselves. Proverbs 31:8
Large
quantities of Milestones of Life and
Its My Body leaflets were distributed
to passersby. Outside Parliament Africa Christian Action
Director, Charl van Wyk led a prayer vigil of over 150 people
in prayers of national repentance, interceding for the Lord
to waken His church up to bring abortion to an end.
