ISLAMIC PLAN for SA
Volume 1 1996
The Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi is among Arab leaders bankrolling a plan to transform South Ainca into an Islamic state.
The move is part of an Islamic revolution to achieve “economic, cultural and finally political unity” in Africa.
Muslim political, academic and spiritual leaders from more than 80 countries met in Tripoli, Libya, in October to discuss the plan.
The promotion of Arabic as a major lingua franca on the continent, and the enhancement of trade opportunities among African states are key areas of focus.
Farouk Cassim, an IFP MP who attended the two-week conference, said: “It will probably be the biggest revolution to sweep Africa.”
The secretary-general of the Islamic Propagation Centre, Yousuf Deedat, said it was no secret that South Africa was high on the agenda of the Muslim offensive. “We are going to turn South Africa into a Muslim state. We have the money to do it,” he said. At present less than two percent of South Africans are Muslims. (Sunday Times 22/10/95)
