Prayer And Principle
Volume 3 1994
Every now and then testimonies surface which indicate how prayer regularly changes the course of history.
Unprecedented bloodshed and civil war was averted when the South African Defence Force refused to invade the Kingdom of Zululand. Senior military authorities disclosed that on March 31 the SA Army had been ordered to invade the Kingdom of Zululand, seize control of the KwaZulu government, arrest the elected leaders of KwaZulu, confine the KwaZulu police to base and wipe out any pockets of resistance.
On April 1st the Transitional Executive Council (TEC) - an unelected body largely composed of ANC and SA Communist Party appointees - ordered the SADF to seize control of KwaZulu. The military authorities in Natal flatly refused to carry out this command. Amongst other reasons they reported great discontent amongst the officers and men in both the Permanent Force and the Citizens Force units. In one unit - out of 500 men called up for service - only 1 0 reported for duty. And all of those made it clear that they were not willing to be deployed against the Zulus.
“The Government made a serious miscalculation when it ordered the army to fight the Zulus’ reported one officer. “The whites in Natal have an excellent relationship with the Zulus. They are our friends.”
“We would rather fight for the Zulus and against the government than the other way around,” said another officer.
As long as good people refuse to do evil there is hope.
Another disaster was averted when the SADF refused to allow the so-called “National Peace Keeping Force” (NPKF) to be deployed in Natal. The NPKF - composed primarily of ANC and PAC terrorists - had disgraced itself by its undisciplined, lawless behaviour, strikes and the general mayhem it has invariably caused.
The main achievements of the NPKF had been shooting journalists and policemen and the worst outbreaks of violence ever seen in Thokoza. The NPKF was confined to barracks, ordered to receive retraining and finally disbanded.
