Dear Friend

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your letter of 12/11 to the Editor of JOY! magazine. Certainly we can only agree with you that on the Day of Judgment many will say Lord! Lord! and the Lord will say depart from Me I never knew you. Not everyone who says Lord! Lord! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do the will of the Father in Heaven.

However, I think you misunderstand our position, we most certainly do contest the Christian profession of those who in the Spanish Inquisition burned Protestants and Bible translators at the stake as “witches.” And we most certainly would reject those who have been violent and racist, such as in the Klu Klux Klan they cannot be Christians in any Biblical sense. The heart of the Gospel is: a changed life in Christ.

Your assertion that Hitler believed that he was “chosen by God” is just not supported by historical facts. Adolf Hitler spoke against Christianity most vitriolically, embraced the pagan Viking gods, and he was a follower of Nietzsche “God is dead.” Some of the very first victims of Hitler’s purges in the 1930’s were Reformed pastors who were being locked up in concentration camps even before the Jews were. Of course, Hitler’s Nazi party were legalizing abortion and euthanasia within the first months that they were in power in 1933. It has been most disconcerting to many Christians in South Africa to see Desmond Tutu essentially support those who stand for abortion.

Tutu has also made statements denying that Jesus Christ is the only way, the truth and the life – no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). Tutu has declared that “the Holy Spirit is not limited to the Christian church. Mahatma Gandhi – the Holy Spirit shines through him.”

Yet the Scripture makes it clear that there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

But, words are cheap and talking can be easy. Paying lip service to the Lord is just not good enough. We need to be wholeheartedly surrendered to our Lord Jesus Christ, taking up our cross, denying ourselves, forsaking the world and following Him. We need to ensure that we are not being conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds.

If we read the secular newspapers more than we read the Word of God, if we watch TV more than we worship Christ, then it is inevitable, we may have Christian hearts, but we will have Humanist minds.

Jesus said: “If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated Me first. If you belong to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates you.” John 15:18-19

Those who love the world make themselves an enemy of God (James 4:4).

We should ask ourselves what is guiding us: The world or the Word? If we find ourselves on the same side as those who support legalized pornography, homosexual marriages and abortion, then there’s something wrong.

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. Scripture alone is our ultimate authority. Salvation comes by the grace of God alone, received by faith alone. Everything should be done to the glory of God alone.

May the Lord guide you into all truth and bless you abundantly as you study His Word and seek to obey Him faithfully.

Yours for the fulfillment of the Great Commission
